Station House Media Unit (SHMU) are based in the Woodside area of Aberdeen
and are managed by a committee of local residents who are actively involved
in the project.
SHMU aims to provide and encourage radio, filmmaking and magazine development
throughout Aberdeen's Social Inclusion Partnership, the Great Northern Partnership
(GNP).
The GNP and the Arts Development Team fund the initiative through income generation
and fundraising.
It gives open access to training and resources and gives local residents the
chance to express themselves positively about issues that affect them through
the mediums.
Video: The Avid suite at SHMU offers training and support in all stages of
the filmmaking process.
Radio: shmufm.net is a new community radio station that offers support and
training to residents in the Aberdeen area. It allows them to gain new skills
and experience in making their own radio shows.
Print: This medium continues to pursue press accountability and balance through
locally produced community publications.
