Glasgow Media Access Centre (GMAC) is Scotland’s longest running open
access facility for young filmmakers. The centre offers facilities for hire
and provides training. Also on offer are two short film production initiatives
Digicult and Cineworks.
Facilities Hire GMAC rent out film and video equipment to its members at income
related prices and there are also a range of lights, editing facilities, digital
video cameras, studio space and sound recording equipment.
Community Projects GMAC works with schools, community groups and art organisations
making documentaries and promotional videos.
Training GMAC provides entry-level training at affordable rates and also offers
Trainee and New Deal Placements. Film camera techniques and script writing
are just two examples of what are on offer.
Information GMAC is available for members through their newsletter, notice
board, website, flyers and events. The information included informs members
of job opportunities, film festivals, competitions, items for sale, cast databases
and training courses.
Cineworks Scotland’s entry level initiative short film production commissions
five original and innovative films each year from emerging Scottish talent.
This is run in association with Edinburgh Mediabase and is funded by Scottish
Screen, The UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund and BBC Scotland.
Digicult is a radical talent development initiative with backing from The UK
Film Council’s New Cinema Fund. The scheme commissions digital shorts
from filmmakers working under the creative umbrella of DIGICULT.
